Vanier Park Cross Classic
By Sven Sturm
KREBS Cycle Club is proudly presenting the annual Vanier Park Cross Classic with free Kids race in Vancouver, BC on Saturday, October 21, 2006, starting at 9 am.
As the 5th race of the Giant Bicycles BC Cup Cyclocross Series this is the last race before the finals the following week. A good result here will lead to a good start position for the final race.
The course is different from previous years with less single track and more like a traditional cyclocross race. We worked hard to ensure you have lots of room to pass (or to get passed). The new course features a longer grass section with one double barrier, a short stretch of tarmac, a sand pit under the bridge and a short, steep run-up. We expect 5 to 6 min. laps for the Men A field depending on weather conditions. The course is ready for pre-ride but please be considerate (traffic & pedestrians in and around Vanier Park). For more details, the course map and the event poster please visit our website (www.krebscycleclub.com) soon. Do we need to mention the event is held rain or shine?
Women race with Men (Men C with Women B at 9:00 am, Men B with Women A at 9:45 am, Men A at 11:00 am). Mountain bike are okay except in the Men A race. Check our website for course map and race details. The best race of the day will be the free Kids Race at 9:30 am. See the future champions duke it out.
The event is located in the very heart of Vancouver in Vanier Park right across from the Macmillan Space Center and the Vancouver Museum on Whyte Avenue/Chestnut Street. Please don't park at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Plenty of other parking available so please park smart and car pool.
Thanks to the City of Vancouver (Board of Parks & Recreation, Film and Special Events) and the Vancouver Police Department for their support as well as our event sponsors (as below):
ING Direct, Ambleside Cycles, Uprising Breads, Schwalbe Tires, Race Face Components, Tim Horton's Coffee and Doughnuts, Deakin Equipment, Steamrollers Burritos, Running Room, CBI Health and more.
US racers are welcome, Belgians and Germans and other nationalities, too.
Race Fee: CAN $ 25 / US $ 25, unlicensed add $10. Kids race is FREE !!!
