CONI Says Drop Basso Case
The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) is recommending that drug allegations against Team CSC's Ivan Basso be dismissed. Basso was named in the Spanish Operacion Puerto investigation on a systematic doping network, and was suspended by CSC prior to the Tour de France.
CONI said in a statement: "CONI's anti-doping prosecutor has determined to propose to the disciplinary body of the Italian cycling federation that the case against Ivan Basso be dropped"
The ANSA news agency quoted Basso as saying: "It's good news but I still don't know if I'll be able to race the Tour of Lombardy on Sunday. I'll speak about that now with Bjarne (Riis, the Director Sportif at CSC), and we'll decide."
