Cycling's Greatest Misadventures - Request for Stories & Photos

Casagrande Press is seeking submissions for its forthcoming book Cycling's Greatest Misadventures. The press is looking for quality nonfiction stories about cycling mishaps, disasters, deaths, comical pranks, crashes, bad judgment calls, misfortune, contest meltdowns, strange injuries, loss of wit, critical conditions, bike trips gone wrong or "non-riding episodes" that surround the cycling experience. The editor seeks well-written stories that tell a good tale, reflect a culture, and develop the depth of the characters involved. Open to writers and riders of any level.

What kind of cycling?
The publisher will take stories that involve riding any kind of bicycle including: racing bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, bmx bikes, beach cruisers, stationary/training bikes, etc. The press is not taking stories about motorized bikes or motorcycles.

Payment
Writers will be paid 5 cents/word upon publication, if their story is selected for publication. Writers will retain copyright and ownership of published stories.

Deadline
The deadline for submission is December 1st, 2006.

Include the following with your submission:
1) Your address, phone number, and email address should appear on the first page of your story.
2) Prior publication information should also appear on the first page, i.e., if the story has been published list the name of magazine, volume number, issue number and date.
3) Reprints, photocopies, or digital files of any images that go with the story. (Do not send original Photographs or slides)
4) SASE. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your submission. Note: If you would like us to return your manuscript, then include an envelope for us to return it, with the same amount of postage

Casagrande Press is also holding a photo contest to find the best bicycle crash shots. Do you have a wild shot of a bicycle crash, painful collision, or someone spilling over the handle bars of non-motorized bike? (No motorcycle shots accepted.) If so, follow the submission guidelines below.

The first prize winner will receive $500 and their image will be used as the cover for a new book to be released in May 2006 entitled Cycling's Greatest Misadventures. Ten runner-ups will receive $50 as well as publication of their image in the book.

The contest is free to enter. Send your pictures via email as .jpg, .pdf, or Microsoft Word files. Please make sure your image is low to medium resolution, and under 2 megabytes. In your email include:

1) Your name
2) Your address, email, and phone number
3) A full caption of the photograph including the photographers name, the name of the person who owns the rights to the image, and the riders name and contact information (if you have it).
